Sisterhood is extremely important to Kappa Alpha Theta. We believe that Theta is for a lifetime and we love fostering closer relationships with both current collegiate members and local alumnae chapters in the area. We have many sisterhood events throughout the year including an overnight Sisterhood Retreat in the fall and a day-long retreat in the spring. Last year our Sisterhood Retreat took place at Camp Kanata providing us an awesome opportunity to relax and bond with our sisters. In the past, our sisterhood events have also included movie nights at our house, after hours shopping at several boutiques in the area, ice skating, and crafting with sisters.

One of our favorite things to do is support our amazing philanthropy, CASA. Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) aims to provide foster children with a mentor who can make their wants and desires known in court. These CASA volunteers play a crucial role in the lives of the children they represent in what can be a very difficult and scary time. As a chapter we have the great privilege of working directly with our local CASA affiliate in Wake County known as Friends of Wake County Guardian ad Litem. We have had great success raising money to support this organization with our annual philanthropy event Stars and Kites. In the past years, Stars and Kites has raised over $30,000 for this amazing organization. The event consists of delicious barbecue, live entertainment provided by NC State groups such as Grains of Time, and a silent auction. In addition to our own philanthropy, Kappa Alpha Theta is very passionate about helping out wherever we can.

This past year we were honored to win the NCSU Dance Marathon Miracle Cup, for the 3rd year in a row, raising over $7,000 as a chapter for Duke Children’s Hospital. This past year our chapter also received the honor of being named the Panhellenic Sopher cup chapter.

In addition, we also host several social events each semester such as date functions and mixers. In the past this has included themes such as Hometown Throwdown, Rhyme without Reason, 90’s Are All That, and many more. During the Fall semester we host our annual Semi-Formal; the Founder’s Ball, at venues such as The Union and Cobblestone Hall. Our most anticipated event is our formal in the spring, the Black and Gold Gala.
